The League of Women Voters plans a rally in support of the electoral process on Thursday, the anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol.
The group said that a coalition of “non-partisan democracy defenders calls on the public to stand with us to assure Peace at the Polls, protection for the process and the survival of American democracy.”
“The survival of our democracy depends on Americans coming together–Americans across race, place, party, and background,” the league said. ”
The rally is scheduled for noon-2 p.m. at the corner of Jericho Turnpike and Route 110, South Huntington. It will support:
- The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act
- The Freedom to Vote Act
- The Protecting Our Democracy Act
Throughout 2022, we will speak up and stand up in response to both the Jan. 6 insurrection at our nation’s Capital and the growing call to violence against our democracy.
