Happening in Huntington: Parade, Gallery Opening

The weekend will feature plenty of activities to choose from, including the big event, the 90th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Not optional is the start of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, meaning residents set their clocks ahead and lose an hour’s sleep.

Also happening this weekend are an art gallery opening, the start of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan, and a girls basketball championship game.

The parade on Sunday will step off at 2 p.m. from the parking lot near the LIRR station, heads north on New York Avenue to Main, turns left and ends at St. Patrick’s Church.

The basketball game, also Sunday., has Walt Whitman playing Syosset for the Long Island title, 5 p.m. at Farmingdale State University.

On Saturday, the D. Velez Art Gallery will have its grand opening at 380 New York Ave., Huntington. The grand opening will run from 5-7 p.m. and feature a group show, “A World of Color.” Admission is free.

Also Saturday, Cycle Bar Huntington is hosting a charity ride to benefit ZanaAfrica, an award-winning nonprofit that provides sanitary pads and health education to girls in Kenya. That ride goes from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Ramadan, a major Muslim holiday, begins Sunday evening and extends to April 9.
