Hikers who complete a series of trails will be eligible for recognition at next year’s Earth Day celebration.

The Huntington Trail Challenge consists of trails as diverse as the .3 mile Heckscher Park Loop to the 5.5-mile Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve, and the 3.3-mile Mount Misery Nature Preserve.

Lynn Plunkett, a member of the Huntington Greenway Trail Citizens Advisory Committee, said that hikers should complete all the trails, maintain a checklist (below) and keep a hiker’s journal. Information about the trails is available here: https://huntingtonny.gov/trails-guide

The checklist should be emailed to: [email protected]

He recommends that hikers check out all aspects of the trail, including such as issues as the availability of parking, before starting their hikes.

Most of the trails are dog-friendly.
