Huntington Pride Parade, Festival Draw Thousands

Thousands of people turned out Sunday for the 34th annual Long Island Pride parade and festival in Heckscher Park.

The parade, which returned to Huntington last year after several years in other communities, was led by the Long Island Gay Men’s Chorus, Suffolk Det. Sgt. Tamika May and State Assemblyman Phil Ramos as grand marshals.

Crowds of supporters lined Main Street, happily waving flags and calling out to friends who marched by. Organizers said it the parade and festival were among the largest such events in the tri-state area.

News 12 anchor Erin Colton acted as emcee of the parade for the second year.

Democratic candidates for the 1st congressional district, Nancy Goroff and John Avlon both appeared at the festivities. They will run against each other in a primary June 25.

A light rain that came down before the parade got underway quickly disappeared and was replaced by sunny skies.
