Two recipients gathered with Huntington officials Friday to mark Organ Donation Awareness Month and to encourage residents to explore ways to provide life-saving donations.

The two recipients, Christian Siems, who is celebrating the ninth anniversary of his heart transplant, and Jonas Wagner, who received a new kidney in January, both work in Town Hall.

Karen Cummings from LiveOnNY encouraged people to donate, noting that New York State residents continue to lag much of the country on donatons, finishing second or third from the bottom each year.  In 2021, 450 New Yorkers died waiting for an organ donation. More than 8,000 New Yorkers are currently awaiting donations.

LiveOnNY is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting organ donations, caring for families of donors, educating and advocating for donations.

A flag honoring organ donation month was raised in front of Town Hall.
