Huntington School Board Hires Attorney to Deal With ‘Issues’

The Huntington Board of Education voted unanimously to hire an attorney Tuesday night to investigate “issues” that it did not publicly identify.

The board appointed Elena Cacavas as special investigative counsel  “for the purposes of addressing the Issues pursuant to applicable District policies.”

On LinkedIn, Cacavas identifies herself as “an accomplished Administrative Law Judge and attorney with 38 years of legal expertise in labor, employment and education issues in the public and private sectors. I am a specialist in arbitration, mediation, fact-finding, and workplace investigations into claims of harassment, discrimination and other employee/officer misconduct.”

The board met Tuesday in a special session that had been scheduled on Friday. The agenda said the district had become aware of “issues” which were discussed in executive session.

No further information was immediately available.
