LI Air Quality Worsens as Wildfires Continue

Air quality worsened noticeably Friday as smoke continued to come into the state from Canada.

The air-quality rating veered into “unhealthy,” which, according to the  Department of Environmental Conservation, means, “Everyone may begin to experience health effects, members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.”

Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott said that all residents, especially young children, seniors, those who exercise outdoors , and those with pre-existing respiratory or heart problems, limit strenuous outdoor activity. For eye, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath or chest pain, contact a medical provider.

Warnings about air quality are in effect across states in the Midwest and the Northeast.
