Families celebrated the Lunar New Year on Saturday at the Heckscher Museum of Art hosted music, art and displays from Asian cultures.
Artist Patricia Shih and Hanson Lee, members of the Town of Huntington Asian-American Task Force, led the program. Shih, a storyteller and musician, showed children how to perform a lion dance, with support from the audience, while Lee demonstrated Asian crafts.
A museum volunteer and Shih explained several items, including an abacus, images of women who had had their feet bound in imperial China, a puppet, and a reproduction of the Great Wall.
Lunar New Year runs from Feb. 10-Feb.15 this year, and celebrates the year of the dragon.
