Militia to Re-Enact Huntington’s Independence Day

The Huntington Militia will re-enact Huntington Independence Day on Sunday, marking the anniversary of the day news of the Declaration of Independence reached Huntington.

The commemorative event is from noon to 4PM at the Huntington Arsenal and Village Green, 425 Park Ave., Huntington. News arrived on July 22, 1776, with the declaration being read aloud to a large crowd gathered on the Village Green.

An effigy of King George III was hung and blown up.

Sunday’s event will include a reading of  the Declaration of Independence, the firing of musket and cannon and tours of the Arsenal.
