Nancy Bartow, Gardener, Dies at 81

Nancy Bartow of East Northport died on Jan. 20 at the age of 81.

She was active with the Centerport and Asharoken Garden Clubs, had an organic garden, and studied at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden to become a certified florist, aiding her creativity to make floral arrangements for the Congregational Church of Huntington and freelance work. For many decades, she was active at the church singing in the choir, as a deacon and as the floral arranger for services.

Her career spanned modeling and acting, awards for copywriting on “Mad Ave” and time  at Huntington Union Free School District as an administrative assistant and as an administrative assistant at Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Biology Program at the Vanderbilt Museum, with a focus on creating a summer camp for students.

She was the wife of Doug, mother of Jess Bartow and her fiancé Stephen Franciosa, Jr.; and Clint Bartow and his wife, Erica. Grandmother to Ayla, Amber, Alissa and Jack. Sister of Fred Spooner and his wife, Kate.

Visiting will be at Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave., Northport,Tuesday from 2-5 & 7-9 pm.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 11am. Pastor Mark Bigelow of the Congregational Church of Centerport is officiating.

Donations to the Congregational Church of Huntington in Nancy’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

  1. So sorry to hear this. Nancy had long been an active and valued member of the Congregational Church of Huntington until illness stopped her. She has been sorely missed. May her memory be a blessing to Doug and their children, who were always her pride and joy.
