U.S. Rep Tom Suozzi, D-Huntington, was sworn in Sunday to his third term representing the Third Congressional District.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve as a Member of Congress. New York, our country, and the world face serious challenges and I am devoted to addressing the problems that we face. I will work hard. I will work across party lines and do everything I can to deliver for the people I serve.”
“We are living in unprecedented times. Working alongside the Biden Administration and both Democrats and Republicans in the House, I will work to bring money to New York, to restore the SALT deduction, to address the problems of healthcare, the economy, immigration, income disparity, climate change, and to ‘Build Back Better.’”
Suozzi serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, as a commissioner of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, as co-chair of the House Labor Caucus, as chairman of the Board of Visitors of the Merchant Marine Academy, as Co-chair of the Long Island Sound Caucus and as Vice Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
Meantime, his former opponent, Republican George Santos, complained that his fiance was fired from his job as a pharmacist after The New York Times pubished information from Santos’ Instagram post showing the pair attending a New Year’s Eve party at President Donald Trump’s home in Florida.
Many of the people who attended the Mar-a-Lago event were maskless.
“@nytimes you have exposed my family to danger and have striped one of us of our livelihood! This is unAmerican,” Santos said on his Facebook campaign page.
“Any publication thinking I’m giving up my my constitutional freedoms due to their bullying is mistaken. I will continue to advocate for our constitutional freedoms. What my family and I went through the past 48hrs is a clear example of why. This is #America #LandOfTheFree,” Santos said on Twitter. “My fiancé & I had to leave our home this evening with our 4 dogs thanks to the @nytimes publishing of my Instagram showing me attending the #MarALago New Year’s Eve party. My fiancé a pharmacist who worked 12h/7days shifts for 9 months was fired! The violence against us is real.”
