Veterans Day: Greenlawn Commemoration; ‘Operation Green Light’

American Legion Post 1244 will commemorate veterans with a service Nov. 11 in Greenlawn.

The service, at 11 a.m., is scheduled for Greenlawn Memorial Park at the corner of Pulaski Road and Broadway. It draws crowds of students, families, elected officials and veterans.

The ceremony will be held on the traditional date and time, the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 am to commemorate the signing of the Armistice Agreement, which ended World War I.

Veterans Day honors those who have served in the US miitary.

Legislator Stephanie Bontempi is sponsoring “Operation Green Light” again this year, asking businesses and residents to display green lights in their windows in honor of veterans. The goals of Operation Green Light are to show appreciation for the contributions of veterans, and to bring more awareness to the issues related to them.
