Whitman to Host Nonprofit Giving Out Food, Toys

Walt Whitman High School will host a nonprofit Saturday that will provide residents with food and other necessities, as well as toys.

The “Holiday Blessings Tour” is operated by the nonprofit organization God’s Blessings Plan.

A semi-trailer truck full of food will set up in the parking lot  from 10am to 2pm.

The stop at the high school is part of the inaugural “Holiday Blessings Tour” organized by the non-profit charitable organization.

The organization works with Feed the Children and corporate sponsors. Its truck  is visiting four Long Island communities during the month of December, with Whitman the third stop. The truck will have 25-lb. boxes of non-perishable food to supplement a family of four for a week, 10lb boxes of personal care items,  and toys for at least 600 families.

The personal care items include diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, soap and deodorant.  The items are available to anyone who needs them. Families can register in advance to get to the front of the line, but registration is not necessary.

Other non-profits will be on site to provide additional resources and showcase the programs and services they have available to the community throughout the year.

Families can also take advantage of medical and dental screenings that will also be available.
