Abuzz in Huntington Station: Illuzienz Barbershop Opens

A new barbershop has opened in Huntington Station, in space carved out of a corner of the CTown supermarket.

Giovanni Urquhart opened Illuzienz Barbershop, on Tuesday, with help from his parnter, Jessie Blanco.

The couple met in barber school and this is his first business after working together at two other shops.

“We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback,” Blanco said. “The last shop really motivated him to open his own because everyone doubted him. So he feeds off of that. People are barbers for a really long time and they’ll be cutting for a long time and never make the jump. It’s a scary jump but he did it.”

The barber business sees a lot of trends. The New York Times reported a surge in requests for Travis Kelce cuts recently, to look like the Kansas City Chiefs’ star.

Instead, they have another request fueled by other, aspiring celebrities.

“We get a lot of TikTok haircuts,” Blanco said.

“A lot of people get their haircus referenced from TikToks,” Urquhart said, a cut he described as mostly long hair on the top and short hair on the sides.

Urquhart said that his favorite haircut is a skin fade, a haircut that tapers on the sides and back, blending short faded hair into the skin

Blanco said haircuts are sometimes a matter of dispute between customers and parents.

Customers , she said, think the “more hair you have the better. It drives parents nuts. It’s “don’t’ cut it’ and parents are like, ‘chop it all off’ so it’s hard to make everyone happy.”

They are eager to get involved in Huntington Station community activities.

The shop is located on the southeast corner of 13th Street and New York Avenue, and is accessible from the street, not from inside the store.

The shop is open Sundays and Mondays, from 11-4, and Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10-7.
