Albert A. Statton III Dies; Army Veteran, Firefighter

Albert A. Statton III, a firefighter and an Army veteran who served other veterans in need, died Sunday.

Statton was born in 1951.

Statton founded Operation Enduring Care in 2009, providing meals and comfort items to residents of the homeless shelter at the VA hospital in Northport.

The program was incorporated with American Legion Greenlawn Post 1244 in 2016. He and his wife, Connie, continued his work on behalf of veterans with the assistance of the post members and others. He began the program while he was undergoing treatement for multiple cancers.

He served 20 years as a medic in the Army, reaching the rank of sergeant first class, and retiring as a senior combat medic. He served more than 30 years with the Greenlawn Fire Department as a firefighter and an EMT.

Visitation is Sunday 2-4 and 7 -9 p.m. at the MA Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station, with a firematic service scheduled for 8 p.m.

In addition to his wife, he leaves five children.

Interment at  Pinelawn Memorial Park.
