Veterans and others gathered Sunday to support their own, collecting personal care items for former members of the service in need of assistance.
The event, held at Walt Whitman High School, included a car show and music. The collection was part of Operation Enduring Care, a program run by American Legion Post 1244 of Greenlawn. It benefits veterans living in the Northport VA Medical Center homeless shelter by supplying such basic items as personal hygiene and comfort items, gently used clothing, packaged new underwear, socks and non-perishable meals.
The day’s events were sponsored by the Greenlawn post and the Centurion Cruisers Car Club.
