Cinema Arts to Host 48-Hour Film Competition

This could be your chance to be the next Steven Spielberg. Or Greta Gerwig.

The Cinema Arts Centre will host a film competition starting Aug. 18 with nascent filmmakers invited to spend the weekend working on their project. Genres will be assigned at the beginning of the competition; the center also promises “some random elements that you find out about at the starting line.”

Teams will have up to 48 hours to complete their projects, starting at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 18, when they are required to meet at the center to learn all the requirements and rules. The submission deadline is Aug. 20 by 6:59 p.m. All aspects, from writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical soundtrack, must be completed within that 48-hour period.

Registration is $85 per team.  Every film will be shown on Sept. 22, and the winning film will be shown before every show for a week at the Cinema Arts Centre.

Films will be judged by the Cinema Arts Centre Youth Advisory Board, with all members of the top three teams receiving a CAC membership, and the winning team awarded $500.
