Dark Skies, Sunny Day for Couple Marrying During Eclipse

It was game, set, match when Joe Shimer and Shannon Becker met about 10 days ago.

That introduction on a tennis court brought them to the backyard of Huntington Bay Village Hall Monday where they were married, choosing the  maxium point of the solar eclipse for their big moment.
Dressed in tennis outfits, the Huntington couple listened as Mayor Herb Morrow officiated, encouraging them to remember their love and respect for each other through the rest of their lives together.
The skies were dark but the mood was light during the ceremony.
“I have to say I have known Joe for my entire life,” the new Shannon Shimer said. “But we really just met about 10 days ago. But he’s been what I’ve been waiting for and looking for. And we knew instantly that this is where we needed to be and what had to happen.”
They met on a tennis court in Blue Point where they were competing against each other.
Morrow said he had officiated at about 150 weddings.
“We’re pro-wedding here in Huntington Bay,” he said.
