Democrats Name Legislative Candidates; Republicans Name Town Picks

Democrats announced their candidates Friday for election to the Suffolk County Legislature.

Under the new redistricting plan that goes into effect for 2024, Huntington will add the 15th District, represented by Democrat Jason Richberg. Democrats also chose South Huntington school board trustee Sidney Joyner in the 16th, to run against Republican incumbent Manuel Esteban, incumbent Tom Donnelly in the 17th, and Stu Besen, to run against Stephanie Bontempi in the 18th.

For Town offices, Huntington Republicans have chosen candidates Brooke Lupinacci and Theresa Mari for Town Board, incumbent Andrew Raia for town clerk, and Pamela Velastegui for tax receiver, running against incumbent Jillian Guthman. Two Town Board seats are open, with Councilwoman Joan Cergol deciding not to run again, and Eugene Cook’s term expiring.

County Republicans named Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and Democrats chose Dave Calone to run for  county executive, succeeding Steve Bellone, who is term limited.
