DOT to Close Parts of the LIE Next Week for Bridge Work

The New York State Department of Transportation said Thursday that the Long Island Expressway  will be closed to traffic between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following days and locations in the Towns of Huntington and Islip, for a bridge cleaning project:

  • Monday, April 29: Eastbound between Exit 56 (State Route 111) and Exit 57 (State Route 454);
  • Tuesday, April 30: Westbound between Exit 50 (Bagatelle Road) and Exit 51 (State Route 231);
  • Wednesday, May 1, Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3: Westbound between Exit 49 (State Route 110) and Exit 50.

Traffic will be detoured onto the service roads during the closures. All closures are weather dependent.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.  Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
