Elwood voters will choose two members of the school board on May 21 as well as vote on the school budget for the 2024-25 school year.
Two seats on the Board of Education are available. Vice president Heather Mammolito has decided not to run again, while board president James Tomeo is seeking re-election.
Walter Edwards, the Town of Huntington’s deputy parks and recreation director, is the sole new candidate. Edwards previously worked in real estate. His mother, Tracey Edwards, served on the board for 10 years.
The board will announce the selection of a new superintendent at its meeting on May 9; it will also present plans for the 2024-2025 budget, which is proposed at $76,760,609, a 5.04 percent increase. Kelly Fallon has been serving as interim superintendent since the departure of Dr. Kenneth Bossert, who moved to the Great Neck district.
