Greenlawn Man Accused of DWI After Hitting Police Car

A Greenlawn man was arrested and charged with drunken driving early Friday morning after he struck a Suffolk County police car, Suffolk County police said.

Police said an officer had stopped a vehicle on Pulaski Road, near Frazer Drive, about 12:20 a.m. The officer was inside his vehicle when a car drive by William Macari crashed into him from behind, pushing the police car into the stopped vehicle.

The police officer was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else as injured.

Macari, 54,  was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
