Happening in Huntington: Wrestling, Pridefest, Wiffle Ball

Walt Whitman High School will again host the Vin Altebrando outdoor wrestling festival on Saturday.

The festival is named for the late Whitman varsity coach, who died in 2018. Each year, the event has funded different charitable causes; this year, the festival will raise money for 1999 Whitman graduate and wrestling program alumnus, Jason Monshine, was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer.

Matches get underway at 9 a.m.

Father’s Day Wiffle Ball

The Greenlawn Civic Association and the St. Vincent de Paul Society are sponsoring   a charity wiffle ball  tournament Saturday.

The event includes a homerun derby, a pitcher’s challenge, as well as trophies, raffles and other contests. Games begin at 9 a.m. at Harborfields High School.

Pride in Northport

Pridefest in the Park gets underway from 12:30- 5 p.m. in Northport. The village park will be the center of activities, with  music, vendors and picnicking available. The event celebrates LGBTQ+ life, rights and history.

Pure Barre is hosting  “Pure for Purple: Moving Today in recognition of Uterine Cancer Awareness Month.

Father’s Day Hike

The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association is offering a guided hike Sunday with WWBA tour guide and educator Jack Canfora, to Jayne’s Hill, the highest point on Long Island, on Sunday, June 16, 2024.  Participants will see the hike Walt Whitman took when visiting his childhood home. Meet up at 11 a.m. in the West Hills parking lot.
