Heckscher Park to Host Juneteenth Celebration

The Town of Huntington will celebrate Juneteenth on June 17, with a day filled with food, music, Double Dutch tournament, history, drummers circles and more.
Juneteenth recognizes the day that the US Army freed the enslaved in Texas at the end of the Civil War. Long a holiday in Texas, it was declared a federal and state holiday in 2021.
The celebration gets underway at 1 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m.
The museum will give away copies of the comic and coloring book Juneteenth: Reasons Why We Sing. Learn about Black artists  on view and more from The Heckscher Museum collection.
The Art League is sponsoring artist Despina Zagrafos as she demonstrates solarplate printing.
