Honu Restaurant Shuts Its Doors, Plans Fall Reopening

Honu Kitchen and Cocktails, known for its fine foods and drinks, unexpectedly announced Wednesday that it had shut down.

The Huntington downtown restaurant said that a new group will open on the site at 363 New York Ave. this fall but provided no further details.

The restaurant, which, frequently hosted community and business groups and elected officials after special events, opened 20 years ago as Blue Honu.

On Instagram, a Honu posting read, “As of today Honu Kitchen & Cocktails will be closing its doors.

“We are so gracious and thankful to all of our loyal customers over the past 20 years who celebrated many special occasions with us.

“We want to wish all the best to the new restaurant group who will be re-creating the space into an amazing culinary experience for all this fall.”

Reviews on Yelp were positive, with one person writing in July, “Been coming here for 10+ years and GEORGE the bar tender has NEVER disappointed. Good vibes always at Honu! Thanks George for always making the best drinks!”

and another wrote in January,

“Listen up, people!
“If you’re looking for the perfect place to have a bridal shower or special event, then honestly look no further, HONU is the place to have it!!! I just had my daughter’s bridal shower there last week. Holy moly.”
