Man Found Dead in Melville House Fire

Town of Huntington workers set up barriers around house at 109 Wilmington Drive.

A man was found dead in a Melville home destroyed by fire, Suffolk police said Tuesday.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating the
circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A 911 caller reported a fire at 109 Wilmington Drive at approximately 4:40 a.m. After the fire was extinguished, a man’s body was found in the home.

More than 100 emergency personnel from the Melville,Huntington Manor, Greenlawn, Dix Hills, Wyandanch, Deer Park and other departments responded to the blaze.

Melville Fire Department First Assistant Chief Donald Barclay told Newsday that  responders had found a shed behind the house on fire that exploded suddenly,  setting the house on fire.

The man’s identity and cause of death will be determined during an autopsy by personnel from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives said they believe the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
