Updated: Memorial Day Parades, Commemorations and the Marines

Events related to Memorial Day will include somber services, parades, an exhibition by the Marine Corps, and a carnival at the Huntington YMCA.

On Wednesday, the public is invited to watch as the US Marine Corps will bring a band, silent drill team and a helicopter landing, starting at 9:30 a.m., at Walt Whitman High School. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

On Sunday, the Town of Huntington will mark Memorial Day with a commemoration at Veterans Plaza in front of Town Hall. Featuring veterans’ organizations from throughout the town, the event will  include speeches and the laying of wreaths at the memorials in the plaza. Starts at 10 a.m.

Monday, Memorial Day

  • The American Legion Huntington Post 360 will parade at noon. The route is along Main Street, west to east, starting at West Neck Road and Stewart Avenue.
  • The Northport Chamber of Commerce hosts a parade along Main Street in the village, to the bandshell, stepping off at 10 a.m.
  • The Centerport Fire Department will gather at Station 1 on Grant Street at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to the HBCA Memorial Park at the corner of Taft Crescent for a memorial commemoration.
  • The American Legion Post 1244 will parade from the corner of West Maple Road and Broadway to Greenlawn Memorial Park at Pulaski Road and Broadway for a service; parade starts at 9 a.m.
The Newton Shows carnival gets underway Friday night and runs through Monday. It supports programming at the YMCA.

The carnival schedule is:

  • Friday, May 24 from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 25 from 1 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 26 from 1 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Monday, May 27 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
