Dr. John Murphy will remain as principal of Walt Whitman High School, instead of returning to the position of deputy superintendent.

Murphy was named interim principal in July, replacing Ken Costa, who moved into a district administrative role. Murphy had served as the school’s principal between 2015-2021, when he was named assistant superintendent superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

“We look forward to Dr. Murphy’s long-term commitment to Walt Whitman High School and his continued work with students and staff,” school superintendent Dr. Vito D’Elia wrote in a message to parents.

The district is looking to fill a position of assistant superintendent for secondary education.
