Polar Plunge to Raise Funds for Special Olympics

Teams are forming to take part in the Town of Huntington’s Polar Plunge on Dec. 10.

Several hardy souls, from John Glenn High School, the town and Cameron Engineering, among others, are already collecting donations for the effort, also known as Freezin’ for a Reason.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Frank M. Petrone Crab Meadow Beach in Northport; registration is set for 8:30-9:30 a.m.

The town team, calling themselves the Chillers, is made up of Nick Aronov, Salvatore Ferro, Elana Israel-Edgar, and Sharon Richmond.

There is a new catergory for school teams: the winner of the Cool School Challenge will receive a special prize. But the rules require at least five schools register for the challenge. Students who raise $150 or more will receive 10 hours of Community Service credit.
