Pupils Get Lesson in Schoolbus Safety

A third-grade class at Otsego Elementary School got a lesson Monday in schoolbus safety.

State Assemblyman Steve Stern, D-Dix Hills, walked the students through safety practices and how elected officials make traffic laws to protect students and others.

The session was put together with the help of BusPatrol, a school bus photo enforcement provider. Pupils watched a video on a variety of safety rules, and heard from adults about looking both ways when crossing a street, walking several steps ahead of the bus after it drops them off so that the driver can see them, and paying attention to traffic enforcement, such as stop signs when they are in cars driven by adults.
