Snow Cleanup Underway; Water Main Floods Road

Crews both public and private were out Tuesday, removing the snow that fell overnight and into the afternoon.

Water spewed from a main on Larkfield Road near Jericho Turnpike; Huntingon Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino was on the scene.

Huntington suspended its trash pickup Tuesday, saying that the snow had made working on some streets a safety issue.

Multiple drivers reported unsafe conditions on highways, with slick pavement and piles of snow.

Some businesses announced late openings, while multiple libraries decided Tuesday morning to close. Helping Hand Rescue Mission canceled plans to distribute food.

Classes at St. Anthony’s will be all remote Tuesday, while classes and all activities are closed Tuesday at all public schools– Half Hollow Hills, Elwood, South Huntington, Northport, Huntington, Cold Spring Harbor, Harborfields and Commack school districts. Gusting winds of up to 40 mph are also likely.

Driving conditions are expected to be poor Tuesday morning because of wind-driven snow.
