Suffolk Credit Union Hosts Operation Homefront: Back-to-School Brigade

From the Air National Guard Base in Westhampton to the stations of the U.S. Coast Guard, military families are a vital part of the Long Island community.

Suffolk Credit Union showed its support for military families by hosting Operation Homefront: Back-to-School Brigade® on August 30, 2023, providing school supplies to dependents of service members. The event was held at Suffolk Credit Union’s Medford branch, 3681 Horseblock Road.

Suffolk Credit Union collected donated items and monetary contributions at its 10 branches as well as reaching out to encourage local military families to register for the event. In addition to distributing the school supplies and backpacks, Suffolk Credit Union presented a donation to support Operation Homefront’s programs.

“We are honored to participate in this program, which provides an opportunity to thank military families for all they do to protect our freedom,” said Michele Dean, CEO & President, Suffolk Credit Union. “Operation Homefront connects us to the military families who share our Long Island communities and lets them know that we appreciate their service.”

Since launching the Back-to-School Brigade in 2008, Operation Homefront has saved military families more than $60 million. This year, the program is expected to provide backpacks filled with essential school supplies to 30,000 military children across the country.

Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families so that they can thrive in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. Military families often face deployments, and the summer frequently brings relocations and the challenge of adjusting to new communities. The Back-to-School Brigade reduces the financial burden of purchasing school supplies while providing local communities with an opportunity to thank military families.

Ms. Dean concluded, “As a community-focused credit union, we are proud to give back to the military families that sacrifice so much to keep us secure. It is truly a privilege to connect with these neighbors and help set up their children for a successful school year.”
