Touch a Truck–And Sound a Siren– at Food Bank Benefit

Eager kids of all ages came out to a Touch a Truck event Saturday, a benefit for Island Harvest and a chance to make noise, eat, and meet firefighters, EMS workers, police, veterans and radio personalities.

In collaboration with radio stations WBAB and BLI, the event at Walt Whitman Shops accepted non-perishable food donations to benefit Island Harvest

Suffolk police gave tours of a helicopter before executing a takeoff that wowed residents lined up to watch; PSEG-LI brought its “My Smart Energy Lab” which demonstrates energy-saving techniques, explains smart meters, solar energy and more; Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency provided information about veterans issues, while other government agencies and businesses offered displays of their services or products.

Firefighters and officers from county and state departments, showed off equipment or demonstrated safety practices.
