Town Board Agenda Includes Park Improvements, New CDA Director

The Huntington Town Board will convene Tuesday to take up an 88-item agenda.

The board will appoint a deputy director for the Department of General Services and name a successor to Leah M. Jefferson as Community Development Agency director.

Numerous resolutions involve additions to parks and recreation facilities or renaming them, including a vote on whether to rename the Dix Hills Ice Rink as Clark Gillies Ice Rink, in honor of the late New York Islanders star. The Hall of Famer, a Greenlawn resident, died in January.

The board will also vote on accepting the donation and installation of improvements at Kew Avenue Park by Assemblyman Keith Brown and the Brown Family and rename it in memory of the assemblyman’s father, the late State Supreme Court Justice Harry Richard Brown.

Also in the agenda is a vote on whether to authorize a $1.2 million bond for improvements at Alfred J. Walker Memorial Park on West 11th Street.

Among the other park and recreation items are a contract with the Huntington YMCA for the use of the Dix Hills Park Pool, a baseball clinic at Manor Field Park,  an agreement with Camp W Inc. to provide swimming lessons to campers at the Dix Hills Pool, and authorizing the expenditure of funds  from the Environmental Open Space and Park Improvement Fund for recommended improvements (Firemen’s Memorial Park, Billy Joel Park, and Veterans Fishing Station & Marina).

The agenda is subject to change.
