Updated: A truck crashed into a tree Saturday morning at the intersection of Dix Hills Road and Park Avenue, seriously injuring the driver.
Suffolk County police said the driver, Constantine Nektaredes, was northbound on Park Avenue about 10:07 a.m. when his vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane and struck the tree..
Nektaredes, 67, of East Northport, was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The pickup truck was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
Dix Hills Road was closed from Andover Street to the Park Avenue intersection and Park was closed from Maplewood Road south to Lantern Street.
The truck struck the tree on the northwest side of the intersection.
