Bossert Expected to Leave Elwood to Become Great Neck Superintendent

Elwood superintendent Kenneth Bossert said Wednesday that he expects to be named superintendent of Great Neck schools, pending a vote Wednesday night.

If his appointment is confirmed, he would step into a job that was supposed to become open later this summer. Great Neck superintendent Teresa Prendergast was scheduled to retire this summer but died a few days ago.

“I write today with mixed emotions as I share news regarding my own position within the district. It is anticipated that tomorrow night, June 14, I will be appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools in the Great Neck Union Free School District. My start date in this new position will be August 1, 2023 after I assist the Elwood Board of Education and administration with the transition process to a new educational leader,” Bossert wrote to the school community.

His departure would be at least the third change in superintendents in Town of Huntington schools this year. Huntington’s James W. Polansky and Northport’s Robert Banzer have both announced their retirements this year.

He had served as Elwood’s top education leader for seven years, coming from Port Jefferson schools.

“As we often say, “Once a Knight, always a Knight.” The Elwood pride I feel each day will be a big part of me as I begin the next phase of my professional journey,” he wrote.
