Election 2024: Campaign Kickoffs; Endorsements and Awards

Huntington Republicans are gathering Wednesday night for their Chairman’s Gala at  Del Vino Vineyard. which runs from 6-9 p.m.

 

Stern Kicking Off Campaign

Assemblyman Steve Stern, D-Dix Hills, will kick off his re-election campaign April 18 with a reception in Huntington.

Stern is seeking re-election in the 10th Assembly District. The reception is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. at Six Harbors Brewing Company.

On the Stage

Mike LePetri, Republican andidate for the 3rd Congressional District, was on stage at Saturday’s Unity Day parade and festival. The former state assemblyman from Farmingdale stood behind members of the Town Board and with other town and county officials as the festival got underway at Stimson Middle School. He is running against US Rep. Tom Suozzi as parts of Huntington return to the 3rd District in January.

On the Fundraising Trail

Though they aren’t running this year for re-election, members of the Huntington Town Board have already been raising funds for the future.

Councilwoman Theresa Mari is having a fundraiser April 22, marking her first 100 days in office. The reception is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. at Posto Pazzo, 84 New York Ave., Huntington.

Supervisor Ed Smyth and Councilman Dr. Dave Bennardo were together recently at a fundraiser for the councilman.

 

Bringing in Dollars

John Avlon, Democratic 1st congressional district candidate, continues to rack up endorsements, especially on the East End of Long Island.

He is vying against Nancy Goroff for the party nomination to run against US Rep. Nick LaLota, a first-term Republican.

Avlon’s endorsements have come from Assemblyman Steve Stern, D-Dix Hills;  East Hampton officials, including Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez,  Deputy Town Supervisor Cate Rogers, East Hampton Town Councilman David Lys, Councilman Ian Calder-Piedmonte and Councilman Tom Flight; former Suffolk County legislator and congressional candidate Bridget Fleming;  former State Senator Jim Gaughran, and former Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman; and former US Sen. Doug Jones  Parkland gun safety advocate Linda Beigel Schulman of Huntington;  the Shelter Island Democratic Committee; the Southampton Town Democratic Committee;

His campaign committee also said that the former CNN personality had raised over $1.1 million in the 40 days since entering the race.

Goff has won the endorsements of several Democratic candidates, including  Suffolk County Legislature candidate Dr. Eve Meltzer Krief;  former Suffolk County executive candidate Dave Calone; Brookhaven Town Councilman Jonathan Kornreich; former Brookhaven town council candidate Cameron Trent.

The 1st District includes much of Huntington.

Gipper Awards

The Ronald Reagan Republican Club will honor three people April 17 at an awards dinner in Lake Ronkonkoma.

The honorees are Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, named Gipper Award Recipient, Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, who represents the 18th Legislative District, named the 2024 Rising Star;  and Grant Lally, publisher of the North Shore Leader, who is receiving a Lifetime Achievement award.
