Ex-Northport Superintendent Takes Interim Job in Waterloo

Fomer Northport school superintendent Robert Banzer has been named interim school superintendent for the Waterloo school district in the Finger Lakes region of the state.

Banzer, who left Northport  after eight years, will serve for the rest of the school year. The Waterloo school board plans to hire a permanent superintendent by July 1.

The Finger Lakes Daily News said that Banzer, who finished his term in Northport as of Dec. 31, succeeds Superintendent Terri Bavis, who was in office since 2016.

Banzer, a 1984 graduate of Northport High School., also previously worked in the Wayne Central School District in upstate New York.

During his tenure in Northport, he presided over the district during the Covid-19 shutdowns, fierce debate over the health of students and staff at Northport Middle School, vaccination issues and the possible sale of closed school buildings.
