Students at Stimson Middle School are engaged in penny wars to help stock a food pantry in Huntington Station.
Donated food and hygiene items go to St. Hugh’s Outreach program. Some of the funds will be donated to a Long Island-based charity chosen by the winning homeroom, and the remaining funds will be used to support student activities at Stimson.
There’s also an elaborate though all-in-good fun system for students to sabotage another homeroom’s point total. Students can take points away from their opponents by dropping dollar bills or coins other than pennies in their collections.
Pennies and points will be added up Friday. The winning homeroom will get a trip to Bowlmor Lanes in Melville.
