Huntington Prepares for Heat Wave

The Town of Huntington said Tuesday that it preparing for an expected heat wave by using town facilities as cooling centers for the public.

Meantime, there is a severe thunderstorm watch in place until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

With the National Weather Service predicting temperatures in the upper 90s, with the heat index as high as 105 degrees on Friday, the town said the cooling center will be available Thursday-Saturday.

Other ways to stay cool:

Cooling centers: The Dix Hills Ice Rink will be open from 12PM- 8PM and the Town of Huntington Senior Center (Flanagan Center) will be open until 4PM.

Beaches: Crab Meadow, West Neck, Hobart, and Centerport Beaches will be open with stationed lifeguards until 8PM.

Pools: The Dix Hills pool will be open to the general public from 3PM – 8PM Thursday/Friday and 11AM – 8PM Saturday.

Spray Parks: Elwood and Manor Field Spray Parks will be open until 11 AM – 8PM. (Spray Parks Open at 10:00 AM for Children with Special Needs)
