Huntington celebrated Juneteenth Saturday with dance, music, food and children’s entertainment.
The festivities, sponsored by the town, brought out a host of of government and education officials, and were emceed by town tax receiver Jillian Guthman.
Juneteenth recognizes the day that the US Army freed the enslaved in Texas at the end of the Civil War. Long a holiday in Texas, it was declared a federal and state holiday in 2021.
Town Hall will be closed Monday for the holiday; state government offices will be closed as well.
