Schools: Regeneron Winners, Musician Selections

Students from St. Anthony’s High School and Half Hollow Hills have been designated as  Regeneron Science Talent Search scholars.

Daniela Parmigiani and Aidan Cazalet from St. Anthony’s and Aayush Prakash from Half Hollow Hills East were among 300 chosen from around the country. The students and their schools will be awarded $2,000.

Cold Spring Harbor Schools Honored

West Side Elementary School and Lloyd Harbor Elementary School were among only four elementary school in Suffolk County and among only 26 elementary schools on Long Island ranked in the Top 100 achieving No. 34 and No. 90, respectively in the U.S. News & World Report. The report evaluated 3,872 elementary schools in New York State based on data obtained from the U.S. Department of Education.

Both elementary schools had previously been named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.

“We are very proud to be designated by U.S. News & World Report among the
highest-ranking elementary schools on Long Island and in New York State,” Superintendent of Schools Jill M. Gierasch said. “This achievement represents the joint commitment of our Board of Education, administrators, staff and families to provide the highest quality of education opportunities for all students. It also acknowledges the commitment of our students to achieve their personal best.”

Harborfields Music Selection

More than 60 Harborfields students in grades 5-10 were selected for the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association’s 2024 All-County ensembles. These student-musicians, recognized as some of the best in the area in their respective grade levels and divisions, will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with their SCMEA ensembles in early March.

“It’s absolutely wonderful to see such high achievement across so many grade levels,
buildings, ensembles and musical disciplines,” K-12 Music Department Coordinator Dan
Bilawsky said. “This recognition is a testament to the students’ focus and hard work, the
efforts of the district’s incredibly dedicated music staff, and the contributions of the entire
Harborfields family within and beyond our school walls.”
