Schools: Wildcat No-Hitter; Honors in Harborfields

 

Whitman sophomore Jaden Grose threw a no-hitter last week against Patchogue-Medford, as the Wildcats won 6-0. Grose, who played up as an eighth-grader, is 1-1 on his third season as a Wildcat.

The Harborfields Alumni Community Organizations celebrated its 20th anniversary and honored several members of the school community for their contributions: Dr. Rory Manning, Katherine Hudson, Maria Ryan, Jeff Shade, Marianne Minton, Kacey O’Brien, and George Kouroutis.

 

IB Students Gather

Northport High School International Baccalaureate Diploma program seniors attended a retreat at Frost Valley last weekend, participating in hiking, riding a zip-line, archery, candle making and simple structure design challenges.

The retreat gives students  the opportunity to reflect on the college decision-making process and recharge before the start of their extensive exams.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is an internationally recognized curriculum that offers 11th and 12th grade students an opportunity to earn the IB Diploma or one or more IB Certificates. To earn the IB Diploma, students must complete and test in six IB subjects; write an extended essay of independent research guided by a faculty mentor; complete 150 hours of creativity, activity, and service activities (CAS); and participate in a critical
thinking course called Theory of Knowledge.

Elwood Music Honor

The Elwood School District has been recognized by the NAMM Foundation as a Best Community for Music Education. The Best Communities designation, now in its 25th year recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders in making music education part of a well-rounded education. In 2024, only 975 districts across the nation earned the honor.
