How To: Get Help With House Repairs If You’re a Senior

Help with minor household repairs is available to senior citizens through a Town of Huntington program.

The town’s homeowner residential repair program will provide  minor household repairs to seniors over the age of 60 who live in Huntington.

Homeowners pay for materials and supplies but there is no charge for labor.

The service is available to homeowners. Priority is given to those elderly who are frail, low income, and handicapped to help them live independently in their homes, the town said.

Some of the projects the town says it can assist with are:

  • Replacing window panes, fuses, door locks, window catches
  • Minor plumbing repairs, for example, faucet or washer replacement, toilet leaks
  • Installing handrails, safety rails, grab bars
  • Installing/removing window air conditioners
  • Patching walls and ceilings (NO major construction or painting)
  • Installing and repairing screens/storm windows
