Republican Named to Run Against Suozzi

Former Assemblyman Michael LiPetri was chosen Monday to run against US Rep.Tom Suozzi in the 3rd congressional district.

Suozzi, a Democrat, was elected last month to fill the term of Republican George Santos, who was ousted from Congress after he was arrested on  multiple fraud and other charges. Santos’s trial is pending.

A Farmingdale resident, LiPetri served in the Assembly from 2019-2021. In 2020, he ran for the House to represent the 2nd Congressional district, but lost in the primary to  Rep. Andrew Garbarino, who was ultimately elected to the seat.

Parts of Huntington will rejoin the 3rd district effective Jan.1.
